We regularly counsel corporate clients about their role as employers. We work closely with human resource professionals and counsel them on the many and varied questions that come up about managing workers. The firm prepares, reviews and revises employment handbooks to bring them into compliance with changing federal, state and local laws, including the Family Medical Leave Act, the California Family Rights Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as with city ordinances such as the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance and California's mandatory sick leave law.
The firm has developed a curriculum and provides training programs tailored for an array of industries and business sizes for compliance with the new state laws regarding mandatory harassment prevention training.
The firm assists clients to prepare affirmative action plans. We defend employers in Federal Equal Opportunity Employment Commission claims and California Department of Fair Employment and Housing claims. We assist clients when their operations are audited by various state and federal labor regulatory agencies, including the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and the California Department of Labor.
We offer and develop strategies for minimizing litigation for clients who are reducing their work force or facing plant closings, and we defend employers in wrongful termination suits. The firm has advised companies, about classifying workers as employees or independent contractors, and it has successfully defending the treatment of independent tour guides as independent contractors in appeals with the State of California and the Federal Internal Revenue Service

We regularly assist our clients to obtain, renew or change the visa status of their employees coming to the United States. We focus primarily on visas in the B, E, F, H, and L classifications as well as Green Card Applications.
